normandy fail

So we wake up at 5 am to catch the train to head up to Noramandy! We pass through Rennes (where we had missed a train on our last visit to Europe) and then train up to Caen. It was surprisingly difficult to find information on outings to the Normandy Beaches, so I had decided that Caen would be a good city to base our day trip out of. We get there and find the tourist office to find out which bus to take. The lady tells us there is 1 (ONE!) bus that goes up there per day, and it leaves from Bayeux at 11:45. Now... we passed through Bayeux on our way to Caen... and it is now 11:30. The train ride between cities is 15 minutes plus waiting for the scheduled train. I was angry. Taking a taxi would be hundreds of dollars and it was too late in the day (11:30?!) to get in with a tour group headed up there. I was very upset! We decided to hurry over to Bayeux and ask the tourist office there about other buses. I just can't imagine why they would only have one bus per day!
To this day you can tell Caen was very heavily bombed during the war. Many things are crooked or look like they are about to fall over there... including this cathedral.

This cathedral is crooked.

We got back to Bayeux an hour later. We found out there was one other bus that went to the Beaches, but it didn't give you any time to look around before you would have had to catch the return bus. Lame! We did walk around Bayeux for awhile.. We saw the outside of one of the war museums. We didnt have time to go in because we had to train back to Caen.. wait an hour there, and then catch our train home.
Tanks!

Bayeux

We ended up not seeing much of anything, and not getting home till after 9pm. I would call this a fail.
