New Years Eve in Paris

Looking back, we should have hung out in the hotel more.. it was awfully cold, and we really didn't have much to do since we'd been to Paris before. But we wandered. Had a nice dinner of European Pizza, and then some good French hot chocolate around 11 pm.

The lower part of the Champs Elysee was lit up with little vendors (who all closed before 10pm... odd) People wandered the streets, although everything closed early and there was nothing to do.
When we came out of the metro station near the Arc, The police stopped me and searched my bag.. Cuz I look dangerous.. or something. :)

We walked around the Eiffel Tower for hours. There were so policemen all over, both here and at the Arc de Triomphe.
Here we were at midnight. It was a little confusing.. there was not countdown.. there were no grand firework display.. nothing........

Just this. (sorry I know its sideways) And this didn't just happen at midnight.. it happened at other times throughout the night as well.

After we all decided midnight had come and gone.. everyone left.
The metros were free all night but supposedly shut down at 2 am.
It was a nightmare to try and get on. The station closest to the Eiffel Tower was closed when we first go to it, the next station we were directed to was not running either.
We decided to walk...in the freezing cold at 1 am. It would be about 5 miles to our hotel
Luckily we stopped at one last metro station that didnt look too busy. We waited there for a half hour before over hearing that there was a metro running just through the tunnel.. we walked there and ended up coming to the metro station we had tried originally. Finally were were able to get home around 2:00 am.
