Our Angers

This will be my last post about our study abroad. These are all pictures from Angers. The spring, our church building, our neighborhood, the castle, etc.
We had an amazing time in this city. We met some of the most amazing peole and we had some incredible experiences. We were so lucky to be able to go spend 5 months together in such a wonderful city. It really was the chance of a lifetime!

Moving on... Catherine wanted some picture of Angers in the spring. Its a little late but here they are!

This is where our French classes from the city were. L'Institut Municipal. We had a great teacher! The museum of fine arts was in the same courtyard as this school.
There were a lot of "Tulip" trees around Angers. I don't know what their real name is, but I want one!

Now this is a weird one. This is art. These um.. artists.. looked like they were worshipping this face. They had different drumming sticks and were kind of drumming on the face while an old guy in the background did some kind of interprative dance. I could not stop watching. I was like.. 10 minutes late to class because of this. Here's a short video clip. Watch the man in the background...

Back to spring and other pictures of Angers!

This tree was just down the street from our house.

Here is the house that was 2 doors down from us. I thought it was super cool!

This one was directly across from our house. They had had white plaster on the outside when we got there, and then they decided they like the rocky look and had it all chipped off. I like their style!
These are all on the wall outside my house.

We finally decided to go explore this old section of our neighborhood the last few days we were in Angers. It was nice..

You can see on this old wall you can see how many times it has been modified and changed.

This is where they had the Thursday Market at place Bichon. Food, produce and clothing vendors would show up and sell their goods till about noon every Thursday.

This is the Maison d'Adam. Adams house. Its said to be the oldest house in Angers. They have a fancy boutique store in there right now. it takes up the main floor, and 3 floors underneath. I dont know what they do with the higher floors..
We just loved to take pictures of the chateau. It really is the coolest one ever.

This is the entrance of the castle.
This is the neighborhood surrounding the castle and cathedral.

When the rocks fall off the castle they can cause some serious damage (this is a rock shard like the ones we gave to our families)
Ya...this is a little distorted.. its got a magical disappearing bus.. and the bridge is warped, but you get the idea.
One of the main shopping centers downtown.. its got a Planet Saturn, H and M, Monoprix, Hippopatomus, Subway, Orange...and I think those are all of the important ones.
Here's our church building.
Place de Raillement. you can see the new tram tracks and the fountains. When we got to Angers none of that was there. The city carousel was where the fountain is now. It was to the right of this building that I almost broke my ankle tripping of a lip of pavement. :S

Now the inside of the Cathedral.

Huge old organ. They started playing it while we were in there. :)
This is where Roi Rene is buried... back behind the wooden seats. They put a picture of it up so you know what it would look like.

On one part of the bridge they have this measurer. In the book I bought it has pictures from when it was at its highest.

Kennan riding by the castle..

This cathedral was ok looking during the day, but it was super amazing lit up at night!!

They were having a race/carnival day

This is our favorite pizza place. It is just down the street from our house. Mmmm..:)

We're getting to the end... Here we are getting ready to move out of our apartment.

Here you can see Kennan scrubbing the mold off the walls. :S

On a side note.. this is the spider I was most afraid of. It wasn't this one.. but the next one that actually climbed on my hand in the middle of the night at bit me twice. I about died when I realized what those two little bumps were... and that the culprit was chilling on the wall above my bed! EEK.

In contrast to the pictures we took when we moved it.. this apartment looks lived in.

Our last breakfast before leaving Angers.
Thanks to Christian for helping us vacate our apartment and get our deposit back. We never would have made it without him! We have everything we took with us for 5 months plus all of the stuff we bought in our bags, and here we are at the train station... getting ready to leave our home. After this we trained to Paris. We couchsurfed with a great couple, went to see Thor and had a nice late dinner with them. The next morning we made it to the airport, had not problems getting through security (even with Kennan checking a fake gun) and arrived back in Salt Lake City on May 31.
